A Story of Personal Experience Driving Public Health Change

August 2025 – Lagos, Nigeria

We’re proud to share that Dr. Bolajoko Olusanya, Executive Director of the Centre for Healthy Start Initiative (HSI), was recently profiled in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization (WHO).

This interview is part of the WHO’s ongoing efforts to spotlight global health leaders who are driving impactful change—especially in low- and middle-income countries.

In the piece, Dr. Olusanya reflects on how her own lived experience with undiagnosed hearing loss shaped her passion for equitable, early childhood health care. She shares her journey from paediatric practice to policy advocacy, and her mission to ensure that every child—regardless of ability or circumstance—gets the healthy start they deserve.

The WHO Bulletin is one of the world’s leading public health journals and regularly features experts whose work is transforming global systems from the ground up.
